MEAL #10 | The Skirball Cultural Center and Museum

Los Angeles, CA

January 26, 2024

Before embarking on a year of using Common Ground to help build an expanded community around the Skirball in Los Angeles, they used their first CG meal to look inward, with the guests being primarily Skirball employees who have worked there for more than 15 years and some senior leadership members. These veteran guests came from many different departments within the Skirball, and most had never sat for a meal together. The menu was created from family recipes submitted by several of those same guests and expertly prepared by Executive Chef Sean Sheridan and his staff. Many stories were shared of immigration to the US and how food connects family with each other and with their communities of origin. Scott Alves Barton curated and co-presented with Marlene Braga of the Skirball, a delicious and incredibly moving evening. Tears were shed and the food was delicious and meaningful.
